Hello,

I’ve been primarily a ConfigMgr admin since 2007 and am planning to use this blog to post about my day to day work activities related to ConfigMgr 2012, SQL 2012 and Server 2012.  I have experience with ConfigMgr in varied environments such as online marketing firms, medical care providers, government contractors and large retailer.  I’m currently consulting for a very large clothing/home goods retailer with a global footprint.  My job is to architect a ConfigMgr 2012 infrastructure for the corporate offices as well as their retail stores in a partially virtualized environment mostly Vmware, some Hyper-V and physical severs.  I’m a one man show as far as implementing Configuration Manager goes, I’m required to provide a fully functional service with detailed instructions on how to use and support it.  I work with a non technical project manager to arrange meetings with internal decision makers and provide status updates.

My Current responsibilities:

  • Designated SME working with internal non technical Project Manager
  • Conducting requirements gathering exercises
  • Capacity planning for a 200,000+ device environment in complex network environment which requires 3,100 boundaries
  • Design ConfigMgr infrastructure (Windows, SQL and ConfigMgr server configuration, firewall exceptions)
  • Identify issues that impact ConfigMgr (i.e. AD Sites and Services inaccuracies, improper DNS configuration, group policies, vmware config, network limitations and etc.)
  • Create RACI documents for federated IT organization
  • Provision and document Role Based Access for each internal IT organization
  • Design global service support tier mapping and escalation paths through varied internal IT silos
  • Design ticketing system CI’s for new ConfigMgr Service
  • Train up staff with zero experience with ConfigMgr or any enterprise deployment tools, all deployments were done with batch files.
  • Document infrastructure design
  • Document server installation guide
  • Create how-to documents
  • Process map existing processes and map to ConfiMgr process for multiple ConfigMgr user groups(Desktop, Store, home office server team, store server team, QA, international teams)
  • Licensing, work with licensing team to ensure adequate budgeting for licenses
  • Performance monitoring of ConfigMgr servers (Windows,SQL, IIS, WSUS)
  • Create custom reports in SSRS
  • Troubleshooting and teaching federated IT personnel as they encounter problems.
  • Provide guidance for packaging and deployment strategies

Yup that’s a lot of work for one person and I have a lot to post and not a lot of free time so you won’t see me updating this site as often as I’d like.

Thank You
